Small Cottage with Wrap Around Porch

I love my own cottage but if I were looking to move, I would hope to find something like this. Doesn't it look perfect? Not too big with a porch around the front and the side. I like the level lot too with mature trees and privacy. My house is on a slope with a walk-out basement and I almost never go down there except to do laundry. I find myself going out my front door to sit outside because it's shady in the morning when my rear balcony has full sun. Of course, it's the reverse in the afternoon which is ideal. I avoid the sun whenever possible and that's what I like about this wrap-around porch. via

The swing would be what I like best. Last summer when I visited my old family home back in the mountains of NC, I had my picture made in the old swing on the porch that I used to crawl on many moons ago. My cousin from FL is certainly enjoying it now. He spends a lot of time on that porch, waves at everyone that goes by, and quite a lot of them stop in to sit and chat for a while with a cup of coffee. Late in the afternoon, friends drop in, and after dark you need a sweater on to sit on the porch and listen to the frogs in the small river that flows close by. What a life!

JudyMac -- A porch swing in the North Carolina mountains sounds like wonderful to me. My family always went there and I have fond memories of washing my hair in waterfalls and other fun things of mountain vacations. We weren't beach people and I'm still not. Give me the cool mountain air. xo, Rosemary

Ah, yes, it's hard to express how much this porch adds to this cottage. Porches have always held some sort of fascination for me. I would absolutely love this place.

It is a lovely porch, and plenty of room for whatever you wish to do. I remember 30 or so years ago when adding a deck to your house was all the rage. I thought then and think now that decks look like an afterthought and rarely fit in with a house's architectural design. A porch looks so much nicer, and we all know the increasing risks of melanoma. I tried to warn my DH that his father was a likely candidate because of all the time he spent on his newly added deck. Alas, I wasn't taken seriously. And he did get melanoma. From my own experience, I can tell you they're great places for a young child to play outdoors on a drizzly summer day.

I think porches are making a comeback and this one is perfection to include that robin's egg blue porch ceiling. We have a screened back porch and when it's not too hot and humid it is such a great place to be anytime of the day. I love the color of this house and the green door. I'm still trying to decide on the color of our next cottage, must decide by September 10. I would love to see the inside wouldn't you?

For the past several years we've gone with our family to the beach for Memorial day. I sit under an umbrella, with a big hat and sunscreen every day at the beach. I'm with you, mountains over beach anytime there's a choice. I have learned to like a walk on the beach though when the sun is setting.
